Day 5 Rental car pickup
Rental car
pick up day today, which was due at midday.
We spent the morning local, visiting the local Natwest to try and get a
card reader (they had none to hand and apparently they fly out the door almost
as soon as they get a bunch in) which was required to add a mobile number to our
account, but they were able to add the mobile number at the branch. This must be some kind of tightening of
security, we are getting messages when we login to Internet Banking or use our
mobile app that we need a mobile number else we won’t be able to continue to
use their services. Not sure how little
old ladies without a mobile will get on.
Anyway, the mobile number was added and he said we should call into any Natwet
branch we happen across as ask them for a card reader. That chore completed we wandered home via the
chemist for more drugs, and then caught the train out the the aiport to collect
our rental car.
It wasn’t
easy to find, all signage assumes you will be arriving from a flight and
looking for car rental, but we eventually found the bus the takes you to the
car rental village slightly away from the airport, and we collected the
beast. We had reserved a small car, hopeful
of eventually getting a bambina but no luck, a gutless hyundi for us instead. To give J some driving practice, we headed to
the Trafford Centre, a huge mall in Manchester, and grabbed some lunch and had
a wander around.
It has a fountain that shoots a jet of water up about 3 floors to the top of the dome above.
And some pretty cool sculptures and "features".
Then we headed back to H & T’s to pack our junk ready for our drive to Knaresborough tomorrow. We’ve decided to leave the bulk of it in H & T’s spare room for now, as we won’t need most of it until we hit Norway.

And areas made to look like you are in New Orleans.

Dinner was
at the local La Casita Mexican street food restaurant a short walk away, and once
again, passed the delicious test.
Nice photo bomb Heather!
