Day 6 Drive to Knaresborough

We left H & T’s shortly after 9am and had an easy run through traffic out of Manchester.  We went via Harrogate to collect a picture we had bought online after our last trip.  We had seen some art work done by Nic Joly, he as made a small sculpture for each day of WWI as a commemoration of the 100 year anniversary.  The one for 8th August 2015 was available, this is the date my grandfathers two brothers were killed at Gallipoli, so it seemed appropriate that we should get it.  Now we just have to get it home with us in one piece.  We arrived at Knaresborough about lunch time and schlepped our much smaller quantities of gear to Fiona’s place, she has kindly offered to have us stay with her for the next few days.  We spent a very pleasant afternoon chatting, went for a wander around Knaresborough, down by the picturesque river Nidd, up to the castle ruins, and along the other side of the river bank to the Knareborough “Riviera” and eventually back home.

Fiona amongst the trees down by the river. It was lovely and cool.

Her two Abyssinian cats are tolerating our presence and slowing warming to our pats and scratches.
This is Sky, toasting himself on the Everhot, looking so regal.

Fiona cooked a delicious meal, Italian chicken with tomatos & olives and white rice.  Dishes done we headed off for an early night and I slept like a log.
