Day 27 Svolvaer to Oslo

So what was in the bag ?

Breakfast.

Today is our last day of holiday together, tomorrow J heads home, and I fly even further north to Svalbard in preparation for shooting polar bears.

We dropped the car at the airport and checked our bags in, then put everything through the scanner (one belt for checked luggage as well as carry on).  The flight left on time and we connected seamlessly with out Oslo-bound flight at Bodo.  We were able to check-in early, so we left our bags and then went back to the airport for a spot of lunch and to collect our stored luggage from the lockers.  Tonight we have to jam all our stuff into 3 checked bags and two carry-ons.  And keep the checked bags under 23kgs each.  This sounds simple, and in theory it is.  In practice however, with a very large stack of books, big heavy books, it is not simple.  It requires careful balancing, half the books in one bag, half in the other.  We started off with me sorting everything I need for polar bears and then a massive pile of what needs to go home was stacked around the room.  Once again my loadmaster skills are put to the test, and two hours later with only one re-shuffle due to a 27kg bag, the job was done.  We congratulated ourselves heartily and went back to the airport terminal for a final dinner together to celebrate.  We are “breaded out” with most of our meals consisting of bread in one form or another, sandwiches, burgers etc so this time we opted for Wagamama.  It was a very nice change, an felt like real actual food, silly as that sounds.  Then we felt a few nightcaps were in order, so we headed back to the hotel bar, and spent a pleasant evening reminiscing on the trip.  Incidentally the Macedonian waiter was there again, recognised us and welcomed us back.  What a memory he must have.

We set the alarm for 5am.
